Friday 26th June 2009 Under 12: We take on Ballybay in our under 12 final, this game has been fixed for Saturday 4th July in Aughnamullen, this team has provided great performances all year for their supporters. Please come out and support this team and management as they try and bring the first piece of silver ware back to Corduff this year. Under 14: A date has also been fixed for our under 14 final, we take on Scotstown in Cremartin on Saturday 11th July. This is a young Corduff team that has showed great determination throughout their league campaign. More details later Intermediate Football League: Last Friday we travelled to Drumhowan. Corduff started well registering two points before the home side got of the mark, Corduff’s points coming from a free won by Aidan Marron and converted Raymond Byrne and a Mark Gilsenan point. Drumhowan pulled one back before Raymond Byrne added a point and a goal for Corduff, The goal coming in the 20th minute after a great run from George Mc Kitterick and pass from Pauric Gollogly. Drumhowan reduced their deficit in the 20th and 25th minute but a point from Mickey Mc Dermott in the 26th and three points from Mark Gilsenan left the half time score Corduff 1-07 Drumhowan 0-05. Again Corduff got off to the brighter of starts in the second half with Colm Marron registering two points coming in the 1st and 7th minute. Despite some great performances from Corduff’s defenders Drumhowan went on to score 5 unanswered points to level the score in the 18th Minute. Raymond Byrne then restored a one point lead for Corduff when he converted a free in the 21st minute but Drumowan went in to score 3 points, a free from Mark Gilsenan in injury time reduced Drumhowan lead to the one point. Final Score Corduff 1-11 Drumhowan 0-15 Reserve Football League: Last Sunday we welcomed Sean Mc Dermotts to Corduff. We earned a valuable 2 points last Sunday in our quest for a semi final position. This was a tight encounter that provided plenty of entertainment for both teams loyal supporters. friday 19th of June Under 12: Pride of place this week goes to our under 12 teams that has booked their place in their divisions finals. Last Saturday’s victory over Doohamlet secured our under 12 teams place in their league final. This team provided a great display of football for all the supporters in attendance. We started well and gained a lead early, we kept this lead throughout the game with great performances throughout the team. This management and team has had great dedication and this final is just rewards for their efforts throughout the year in games and training. Date and opposition yet to be confirmed. Under 14: Our under 14 have also earned their place in the Final of the shield of their division, Opposition to be confirmed. Intermediate Football League: Last Saturday we took on neighbours Donaghmoyne at home in the league. The visitors started strong registering 1-1 within 2 minutes, Corduff did get off the mark in the 5th minute with a free from Raymond Byrne after a tackle on Martin Mills, George MC Kitterick also registered another point for Corduff in the 8th minute. Donaghmoyne went on to score 1-3 between the 9th and 18th minute. But Corduff did respond well with points from George Mc Kitterick, Raymond Byrne, Martin Mills and Shane Connolly. Leaving the score line Corduff 0-06 Donaghmoyne 2-04. Donaghmoyne again hit the back of the net after 29 minutes. But Corduff did pull back a point before half time. Half Time Score Corduff 0-07 Donaghmoyne 3-04. Corduff’s half time talk worked as they registered 3 points in the opening 8 minutes, Corduff was also defending well and working well. Donaghmoyne’s lead was cut after Declan Larkin hit the back of the net for Corduff in the 14th Minute leaving the score 1-10 to 3-6. Four points in the last 8 minutes guaranteed share of the points. These four points coming from Declan Larkin, George Mc Kitterick and two from Ciaran Brennan in the 25th and 27th minutes. Final Score Corduff 1-14 Donaghmoyne 3-08 Reserve Football League: Last Sunday we travelled to Eire Og, this game was played in wet conditions but Corduff started well registering four points in the opening four minutes before the home side got off the mark. Corduff’s four points coming from Shane Mc Nally Jnr after 42 seconds, Wayne Kerley after 2 minutes and two points from Mickey Mc Dermott in the 4th minute. Eire Og came back with three points, before Mickey Mc Dermott restored a two point lead with a well taken free in the 12th Minute. The teams were level after 21 minutes before Mickey Mc Dermott converted two frees in the 23rd and 25th minute. Half Time Score Corduff 0-07 Eire Og 0-05. Corduff again started well in the second half also registering 1-03 before Eire Og responded. The goal coming from Mickey Mc Dermott after a great ball from Cathal Connolly. In the 8th Minute a point from Brendan Kerley left the score Corduff 1-10 Eire Og 0-5. Corduff also ended the half strong with points from Pauric Gollogly, Shane Connolly, Brendan Kerley and Wayne Kerley. Brendan Kerley also registered Corduff’s second goal of the evening after the 22nd minute. Friday 12th June Intermediate Football Championship: Last Saturday we took on Cremartin in the preliminary round of this year’s championship. Cremartin registered the first score in the 3rd minute but Corduff responded quickly with a great individual point from George Mc Kitterick in the 4th minute. Mark Gilsenan gave Corduff the lead in the fifth minute with a well taken free. Cremartin then went on to score 4 unanswered points before Shane Connolly registered Corduff’s third point of the evening after some good work from Mickey Mc Dermott and Shane Mc Nally Jnr, this left the score Corduff 0-03 Cremartin 0-05. Points from Mickey Mc Dermott and Lee Mc Gardle levelled the score in the 13th minute. Cremartin lead by two points at half time Corduff 0-06 Cremartin 0-08.Corduff started quick in the second half with Martin Mills registering their first point after 48 seconds. Cremartin replied with a point in the 2nd minute leaving the gap 2 points. A free from Mark Gilsenan and points from Lee Mc Gardle and Shane Mc Nally Snr gave Corduff a one-point lead in the 21st minute. Cremartin levelled in the 23rd minute and took the lead in the 25th minute. Raymond Byrne levelled with a free in the 26th minute. The sides were level and then Mark Gilsenan registered a free in the 29th minute. The last minute and injury time felt like 30 minutes as pressure was plied on and it took a great save from Corduff Goalie Peter Mc Garrell in the second minute of injury time to secure the win. Under 12 Semi Final: Pride of place this week goes to our under 12 team who secured a place in their league semi final against last year’s winners Doohamlet. This is a great achievement for these young boys and girls and their management teams. This game is due to be played on Saturday 13th. Intermediate Football League: Last week we earned three important points against Rockcorry and a strong Tyholland side. Last Wednesday 27th we were away to Rockcorry. We earned two valuable points with great performances from Shane Mc Nally, George Mc Kitterick and Pauric Gollogly. Final Score Corduff 1-12 Rockcorry 1-11. Then on Saturday we played a strong Tyholland side at home in very warm conditions. Tyholland controlled the first half but Corduff stayed in touch. At half time the visitors were leading 0-08 to Corduff’s 0-06. After 11 minutes Tyholland’s lead was extended when they registered a goal leaving the margin at 5, Corduff cut their lead in the 20th minute to 3 points. Corduff came strong in the last ten minutes and they got their rewards with a fantastic goal from Declan Larkin and super performances Shane Mc Nally, Martin Mills and Declan Larkin. Final Score Corduff 1-12 Tyholland 1-12Intermediate Football Championship: All roads leads to Castleblaney this Saturday when we take on Cremartin in the championship. All support is needed to cheer on the team. Former Greats: A former greats football match will be taking place in Corduff on Sunday 5th July. The players will be from South Monaghan Football Clubs including Corduff, Carrickmacross, Donaghmoyne, Inniskeen, Killanny and Magheracloone.
